Astrological Key Information
- To determine sun sign, you need date of birth.
- To determine rising sign, as a general rule, if you take the time of your birth, and say it is 11 am and your sun sigh is Taurus, think of Taurus as 4-6 am (always start at this time, as well as putting in your sun sign) and then work your way around sequentially, that is Taurus 4-6 am, then 6-8 am Gemini, then 8-10 am Cancer, then 10-12 pm brings you to Leo. As a general rule of thumb you use your sun sign as the starting point and go sequentially through the placement of signs, and the time is done in increments of two hours. Keep in mind that this is general understanding and it by no means comprehensive. Check with a professional Astrologer for more detailed results.
- FYI: The rising sign or the ascendant is the mask or who you appear to be to other people. It also encompassed who you believe yourself to be in the world’s eyes. Astrological personality considers the rising sign as an important factor as well as your baseline sun and moon signature.
- I highly recommend any of the Astrology books written by Stephen Forrest. He is brilliant and down to earth in his approach to Astrology. I’ll take you through a system Stephen Forrest created: imagine you are looking up a potential love interest. Forrest describes the sun sign as the ego, and imagine your potential love interest’s sun is in Aries (get this from the birth date), and Aries personality is that of the Pioneer leader, so you could say something like the Aries person has the ego of the pioneer. Then the moon (Use an easy-to-use ephermis chart to derive the moon’s placement) which represents your soul, may be in Taurus. We know that Taurus is practical and materialistic. So you could say your potential love interest’s soul is Pragmatic. Hold on, if you are not getting this, I will continue and bring it all together. It’s actually a lot of fun once you get started.
- So, a quick review: the sun is in Aries and we said that the he has the ego of the pioneer and the soul of the pragmatist. Now, going forward to the rising sign, Forrest describes the rising sigh as the mask as it is the outer personality and/or persona. Now, after checking doing a quick review (remember the trick I taught you about how to find out the approximate rising sign?). Now is the time to use that method, for a general idea of ascendant/rising sign. If your potential love interest's sun sign is Aries and he was born at 4:30 in the afternoon, you start at 4-6 am Aries, then 6-8 am Taurus, followed by 8-10 am Gemini, 10-12 Cancer, 12-2 Leo, 2-4 Virgo and end with 4- 6 pm Libra. A trait Librians are known for is their strong sense of justice. So you could say that your potential love interest wears the mask of the justice seeker. Then consider, do you want to date a guy whose ego is that of the pioneer, the soul of the pragmatist and the mask of the justice seeker. See, I told you it is fun!
- For even more general fun astrology information about your potential or actual lover, consider your own sun, moon and ascendant. And if you want to know even more, consider that each of the planets is ruled by a planet that is represented by an element. From the example of the Stephen Forrest system, we said your potential love interest has the ego of the pioneer (Aries-fire element), the soul of the pragmatist (Taurus-earth element) and the mask of the justice seeker (Libra- Air element). Think about it, and if you are really brave you could even take this one step further and see how your elements compare, that is, suppose your ego is in a water sign and his ego is in a fire sign? Water and fire produces steam. On a foundational level, that’s not a good thing, and you might want to get a professional synastry chart to get more insight about this potential relationship.
- I personally would not allow any astrology particulars to deter me from pursuing a love relationship because sometimes couples with the most incompatible charts have the longest-lived and best relationships. And too, the couple can learn much more about themselves and love when the planets are not all in their favor. I don’t believe anything is set in stone. Some couples have highly compatible charts and they don’t make good use of the compatibility factors and the relationship suffers and/or concludes. Perhaps, Astrology is entertaining and helpful.

Arians are proud, courageous, strong, original, honest and impulsive. Loaded with personality, they are capable of carrying out plans although they do tend to start things and not finish them. The Ram needs to be first, at the head of command. There are two types of Arians: the positive type is pure and noble; the negative type is weak, futile and sheep like. The Ram makes a greater leader being blesses with leadership qualities. Arians love beautiful things and can be quite extravagant in order to make an impression and/or succeed in their work. They often marry hastily only to repent at their leisure. They also tend to marry more than once since their natural aggressiveness is not easy to live with. Bulls tend to be extremely materialistic, placing a high value on money, property and possessions. Longing for security and money in the bank, Taureans like to associate with the well-to-do. Imagine a circle and/or pie, and each piece of the pie is divided into twelve pieces, and each segment inflluences part of you . You have to consider the outside of the pie/circle, and then evaluate those planets that are resting inside the pie piece. They all add to the flavor of you. Chart Explanation
At the time of birth, your planets in signs find a home in the houses. The natal or birth chart is influenced by transits and progressions. For our purposes, we need not delve too deeply into the subject.
Compatibility Factors
In an individual chart, certain aspects are evaluated; generally they start with five main categories and expand from that vantage point.. They are as follows: Square= Very difficult Opposition = Challenging Sextile: Harmonious Conjunction = Affinity Semi Sextile = Not quite as favorable as a Sextile.
Example: If a chart has hard aspects (square) between the 4th (early life) and 7th (relationships), and has positive aspects in the 10th house and 1st houses, it can be determined that the chart owner may have some challenges in love relationships but would do very well in business. Please note that while certain aspects may be hard or seem nearly impossible to overcome, even the best people, and most productive people, have rough aspects to deal with usually. A professional Astrologer can make these determinations.
In a Couple's Chart
Things you can determine without a professional Astrologer are where the planets are for each individual. A review of the planets is as follows: Sun, Moon, Your Ascendant and Descendent, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, the North and South Nodes. You can get this information from an Ephermis which is sold in the New Age/Self Help section of most book stores. Example: Let’s suppose you are a Sun sign Scorpio, Moon in Capricorn, Rising or Ascendant in Leo, Venus in Cancer, and Mars in Aquarius, and you are dating a man that is a Sun sign Virgo, Moon in Cancer, Ascendant in Cancer, Venus in Aquarius, and Mars in Leo. Fist things first: Your Sun sign is in Scorpio and his Sun sign is in Virgo, the elements involved in your mutual egos are Earth and Water. Now look at each Moon or Soul = feelings. Your Moon is in Capricorn and his is in Cancer, the elements involved are Earth and Water. Now let’s look at your Sun to his Moon. Scorpio to Cancer (Water-Water). And his Sun to your Moon, Virgo to Capricorn, that is Earth to Earth. And then, the rising signs: your rising sign is ruled by Leo which is Fire element. His ascendant is ruled by Cancer which is a Water element. This is Fire and Water which produces steam. So you may have some misunderstandings in terms of your presentation of yourself in the world as well as the type of people you both tend to bring into your lives. Upon further review, your Venus or the way you love is in Cancer. That is a water element and that conjuncts his moon as well as squares his Venus. Cancer is clingy and a home body and Aquarius loves their freedom. This could create some conflict. The location of a man’s Moon in relation to a woman’s Venus is paramount to the success of the relationship. Your Mars in Aquarius makes for much passion in this relationship (Look for Venus-Mars combinations to determine passion levels) but it squares your Mars. So this relationship could prove to be quite tumultuous over time. You can logic it out as to the overall success, that is, comfort level and ultimate love, of the relationship if you go through all of your planets and compare with his planets. Also, do the same for his planets compared to your planets they will yield different results.
Example: His Moon conjunction with your Venus is nice for both parties, but will not be experienced in the same way. The Moon is the way one feels and Venus is the way in which one loves.
